This project is a formal exploration of the intersection of hinged volumes in plan and section. Volumes are split and hinged in both plan and section, then scaled and shifted into one another, in order to develop the areas of their intersections for programmatic use and circulation.

The main entry volume acts as an anchor, grounding the extended arm of shards, with the added structural support of the columns, to hold up the arm as an elevated bridge to access the other volumes. The split-level form directs the user into each of the shards which pierce bilaterally from the central bridge.

Two hinge elements are rotated into one another to form an interlocking relationship. A stair language was developed that focused on the 90-degree rotational intersections, and the infill of poche versus non-poche spaces. The result was a circulation composed of proportional infilled stair landscapes.
